I wouldn’t be surprised to learn if many of my readers were also big fans of Danger and Play.
I know I am.
For those of you who are not familiar with the website, then I highly recommend you check it out as Mike Cernovich (the man behind Danger and Play) has a very unique take on men’s health and self improvement.
But Danger and Play isn’t the only website that Mike runs. A few years ago he launched Fit Juice, a website dedicated to providing tips and recipes to juicing enthusiasts and green smoothie lovers.
And if you’ve been reading Well Built Style, then you know I’m a huge fan of both.
So when Mike offered me a review copy of his new e-book bundle, Fit Juice Trilogy, I jumped at the opportunity.
The following is my review:
Although the concept of juicing to improve your health and vitality isn’t anything new, I still think Mike deserves a lot of credit for popularizing the idea amongst men, especially bodybuilders and athletes.
What Mike has done through Fit Juice is that he’s taken an activity that was traditionally associated with hippies and new agers, and brought it more into the mainstream.
Essentially, Mike has made juicing “cool” for regular guys, which is awesome.
But isn’t fruit and vegetable juicing just another fad?
One of the common criticisms leveled at juicing proponents is that they are just pushing another fad diet.
But this couldn’t be further from the truth.
In fact, what I got from reading Mike’s Fit Juice Trilogy is the complete opposite – Mike sees juicing as a tool.
That’s because juicing isn’t really a type diet per se, but rather just another method or tool to enhance your current eating habits.
For example, I’m a huge fan of the Wahls Protocol, which is a diet that recommends you eat at least 9 cups of fruits and vegetables every day.
While this isn’t the most difficult task in the world, using a juicer and/or blender certainly makes it a lot easier. In this case, juicing is used as a tool in order to meet the needs of a diet (Wahls Protocol).
See how it works?
Fortunately, Mike does an excellent job in Fit Trilogy explaining the benefits of juicing and why everyone should incorporate it into their diet.
But what about juice fasts or juice cleanses?
It’s true that some people will go on a “juice fast” or “juice cleanse” for a period of time (e.g. Joe Cross in the movie Fat Sick and Nearly Dead), but once again, these are not really diets per se (at least they shouldn’t be), but rather just tools or methods to kick-start healthy eating habits.
So if you are looking for a book to give you an elaborate protocol on how to run juice fast or cleanse, then Fit Trilogy is definitely not it.
In fact, what you get something a lot better.
What do you get with the Fit Juice Trilogy?
The Fit Juice Trilogy is an e-book bundle containing three e-books:
- Juice Power: How to Juice for Healing and Lifelong Health
- Juicing for Men: Potent Juices to Boost Testosterone
- Juicing for Athletes: Recipes for Better Performance and Improved Recovery
The largest of the three e-books, Juicing Power, clocks in at 179 pages and contains over 70 juice and smoothie recipes. The book also includes various tips and strategies from picking the right juicer, to how to save money when juicing (I’ll give you a big hint right here). Suffice it to say that Mike has created a tremendous resource in Juice Power.
The other two e-books in the bundle (Juicing for Men and Juicing for Athletes) are more like mini e-books with a combined length of about 50 pages. While I’m sure Mike could have easily included these two mini e-books within Juice Power, I’m actually glad he didn’t. Having them as separate e-books makes them a much more handy reference.
Also, another difference with the two mini e-books is that they delve much more into the supplementation side of things with their recipes (e.g. the “Juicing Your Juice” section within Juicing for Athletes, and the “Supercharged Aggressive Recovery” and the “Virility God” juice recipes in Juicing for Men).
Although I’m not huge fan of supplements myself, I thought Mike did an intelligent job of combining a variety of effective supplements with the healing power of his juice recipes. So for all of you bio-hackers and athletes out there looking to extract more performance from your body, these two e-books are a must read.
What could have made the Fit Juice Trilogy better?
Don’t get me wrong, I think Mike has put together an awesome product with the Fit Juice Trilogy, but there are a couple of areas that I think could have made the bundle even better:
- References – it would have been nice if Mike had a list of references at the end of each e-book. Although, to his defense, he did link to references and studies in many areas, I think it would have made the e-books that much better if they were fully referenced in the traditional manner.
- Hard copy version – I’m sure others will have mentioned the same thing, but making the Fit Juice Trilogy into a hardcover would have been amazing. Perhaps a spiral bound edition with extra thick pages and high quality images.
Overall, I think these criticisms are very minor for an otherwise excellent product.
Should I buy the Fit Juice Trilogy if I already read the website?
Mike admits that if you are a regular reader of Fit Juice, then there really is no need to buy his e-book bundle. However, I should mention that the e-books do contain content that is not on the website.
Furthermore, if you’re like me, then you’d much rather have all of the content in one neat little e-book (or three) rather than trying to find it all on the website. In fact, I can’t stress enough how much easier it is to read it as an e-book vs. reading the content on the website – once again, a testament to the quality of the product itself.
Lastly, it’s only $20! That’s a bargain as far as I’m concerned. In other words, for the price of your weekly Starbucks habit you could grab the Fit Juice Trilogy e-book bundle and start taking control of your health.
That’s a no brainer if you ask me!
The Fit Juice Trilogy is an excellent resource on fruit and vegetable juicing. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or have been juicing for years, you will get a lot of value out of this e-book bundle.
So if you have made it a resolution this year to finally take charge of your health then grab a copy of the Fit Juice Trilogy, it’ll be the perfect ally on your journey to a healthier you.
